A pearl necklace

The overall result of the Helsinki 360 planning concept can best be described as a pearl necklace. The necklace folds into a curvilinear structure that adapts to the region's red (residence, science, business), green (countryside, nature) and blue (lakes, rivers, sea) characteristics. Its pearls each have a shape and color of their own. Helsinki 360 provides Greater Helsinki with a nodal structure that is capable of absorbing quite intense urbanization, while at the same time providing space for the further development of an extensive network of interconnected natural areas.
